Senior Pastor Bob Cochran will continue the summer worship theme at First Lutheran of "Gimme That Old Time Religion," preaching on the Fanny Crosby hymn, "Blessed Assurance." The congregation has been celebrating 2019 The Year of Scripture with a one year Bible read, just passing the halfway point, heading into the major and minor prophets. A coffee fellowship is held in the church lounge after each service, 8:30 and 10a.m. All are welcome.
"GIMME THAT OLD TIME "RELIGION" is the summer worship theme at First Lutheran Church, Findlay. Summer worship times are at 8:30 and 10:00. Both services this Sunday will feature music played by our worship band, The Spirit of Lincoln and Main. A noisy offering will be collected at each service by the children of the congregation, with funds benefiting Genacross, formally known as Lutheran Homes Society. School supplies are being collected for Stuff the Bus. A coffee fellowship will be held between each service in the church lounge. All are welcome

Senior Pastor Bob Cochran will preach on the prayer style of the old favorite hymn, "Just As I Am," as First Lutheran continues the summer schedule (services at 8:30 and 10 a.m.), featuring a more casual worship with The Service of the Word. Immediately following the second service, the congregation will enjoy a picnic at the FLC pavilion. On Tuesday July 2nd Pr. Bob will host the Pastor's lunch at Scramblers from 11:30-1, and the church book club will meet in the evening at 7 p.m. to discuss this month's selection.

Casual Worship continues at First Lutheran this first Sunday after Pentecost at First Lutheran with the Service of the Word and familiar hymns selected by the congregation earlier in the spring. Council will provide Dad’s Day Doughnuts as part of the coffee fellowship between services, which are the summer schedule hours of 8:30 and 10:00. On Mondays all through the month of June, the Monday Morning Ladies Bible study will meet in the Church Lounge at 10:30. All women are welcome to share in a time of study and friendship. On Wednesday June 19 there will be a New Members class at 7 p.m.; new members will be received on Sunday June 23. Please feel free to come on the 19th or contact Pr. Bob Cochran at 419-422-2638.

First Lutheran continues the observation of the 2019 Year of Scripture with the one-year read of the Bible as well as the Sermon on the Mount Bible study during the Sunday School hour between 8:15 and 10:45 services. They will also celebrate the church musicians this week by honoring the hand bell choir at the second service. The ringers will play "America, the Beautiful," patriotic and religious melodies arranged by Lloyd Larson. On Tuesday May 28 The OWLS of the church will hear a presentation by Nicole Coleman, the Executive Director of the Hancock County Veterans Services. Her presentation, entitled "Combat Boots and Lace," will feature her experiences during her 7 years in the U. S. Air Force including tours in Desert Storm, Bosnia, and dealing with aftermath and recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder. Mrs. Coleman will speak at 6 p.m. following a potluck supper at 5 p.m.

The Senior Choir, directed by Jane Eakin, will perform All Things New, based on Revelation 21. Pastor Robert Cochran will also recognize all graduating students. There will be a coffee fellowship after each service all are invited to attend.

First Lutheran Findlay continues celebrating their church musicians at the 8:15 am and 10:45 am services. We will honor the Brass Choir, directed by Diane Adler, which will play Grand Choeur by Dubois/Brockman. The children’s choir, Kids of the Kingdom, is also being honored. Kids of the Kingdom is directed by Sally Rice, Heather Nielsen, and Jenny Welte. A noisy offering will be collected at both services that will benefit the Lincoln School lunch program. There will be a coffee fellowship after each service and all are invited to attend.
First Lutheran Findlay will celebrate our church musicians all of the month of May. We will honor our church organist Miriam Gibson this first Sunday as she highlights Cinco de Mayo at both the 8:15 and 10:45 services with her prelude and offertory, Toda La Tierra by Peterson and Cantad al Senor by Michel. Also included will be the singing of three Spanish hymns. Beginning at 11:30, the Community Dinner will be served featuring a menu of enchilada casserole, Mexican corn, salads, fresh fruit, and homemade desserts. Food Boxes of Hope may be picked up from 12:15-12:45 if an application was filled out in April.

First Lutheran will celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord with traditional liturgical services at 8:15 and 10:45. Special music will be provided by the Brass Choir,"Easter Anthem," by Billings; handbells, "Day of Resurrection;" "Easter Celebration" performed by the Senior Choir under the direction of Jane Eakin; and "Christ Has Risen, Alleleuia!" based on a Tanzanian spiritual, performed by organist Miriam Gibson. Holy Communion will be available at both services. On Friday and Saturday April 26-27, the Women of the ELCA will hold its spring rummage sale with proceeds going to ELCA AMPARRO, Lutheran Disaster Response for SE USA tornado relief, and Boxes of Hope for community dinners. This event is sponsored by Thrivent Financial, and hours are Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-noon.

First Lutheran Findlay will celebrate Palm Sunday services at 8:15 am and 10:45 am this Sunday with a palm processional. There will be a coffee fellowship after each service and before the Sunday School hour, which begins at 9:30. Holy week services will continue with a Meditative Communion Service in the Memorial Chapel on Maundy Thursday the 18th at 7:00 pm. The Good Friday Tenebrae Service, 7:30 pm on the 19th , will reflect on readings and music from John chapters 18 and 19. Easter services on the 21st will include the brass ensemble, hand bells, and the choir. Easter services will be at 8:15 am and 10:45 am. A breakfast will be provided at 9:15 with a free will offering. These services are open to all.
First Lutheran Findlay will host this week's Community Dinner featuring a menu of macaroni and cheese, green beans, fresh fruit, homemade salads and desserts as well as Panera bread. Associate Pr. Christian Dittmar will preach on the sermon text Matthew 24: 35 concluding the Lenten-themed sermons on sayings commonly thought to be in the Bible. Services are 8:15 and 10:45 with Sunday School at 9:30. Adult classes are being held on the 2nd floor, and children's classes are learning about the fruits of the Spirit, beginning with a video, followed by crafts, games, and singing. Any child 4-18 is welcome to join. The Christian Education committee is looking for teachers of all ages for the 2019-2020 school year as well as parents to staff the Nursery. EPIC Youth will meet at 6 p.m. On Wednesday FLC will observe the last midweek Lenten service featuring "Joyous Light" by Ray Makeever as we look toward Holy Week.
First Lutheran’s Senior Pastor Bob Cochran continues this year’s Lenten series of talks on common expressions people often confuse with scripture at the 8:15 and 10:45 services. This week's expression is "God will never give you what you cannot handle". There will be a coffee fellowship after each service and before the Sunday School hour, which begins at 9:30. On Wednesday March 27, a soup supper will be available beginning at 5:45 with a free will offering, proceeds going to ELCA World Hunger. Midweek Lenten worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. “Our Joyous Light”, a liturgy by Ray Makeever, is being used at this service. These services are open to all.
